A father and son were killed and a third person was injured Friday when a small noncommercial plane crashed near a golf course in the Gold Country city of Auburn, officials said.

The single-engine plane crashed around 10 a.m. in a wooded area near the Black Oak Golf Course, killing Meadow Vista (Placer County) residents Anthony Lawrence Wright Sr., 80, and his 55-year-old son, Anthony Lawrence Wright Jr.

Wright Jr. was a reserve officer and a full-time records officer with the Rancho Cordova (Sacramento County) Police Department, officials said.

A third person was being treated for unspecified injuries, officials with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were responding to the scene.
